My friend Adrienne

I don't remember the exact date I met Adrienne (late 1971, 72?-my 62-year-old memory isn't as good as it was) but I do remember her kindness and support, her rumbustious laughter and sense of fun. She cheered me up when I was down, supported me when my mum was terminally ill and when my mum died just before my 23rd birthday. We had lots of fun and silliness in Liverpool, at Cambridge and Whitby, and when we were both new mothers, Chris born in February 1979 and Tim in March 1980. I was living in Somerset by then, a single parent by December 1980, and she and Jack welcomed me and Tim to stay often. We shared folk festivals and shanty festivals, our sons becoming firm friends, and later Hannah joining in the fun. Our friendship went on, meeting less often but still, I hope, close. She was private, but I hope she knew she could count on me if needed. I can't say how much I miss her. Sail on.
